Course context for academic year 2014-15

This course is the first one in the sequence of Macroeconomics; it is followed by Intermediate Macroeconomics in the first semester of the second year. It falls within the area of Economic Analysis.
The objective of this course is providing students with the basic knowledge, both theoretical and empirical, to understand and analyze economic problems at the aggregate level. Also, it teaches students to use analytical reasoning to pose and solve economic problems.

To know the basic problems studied in Macroeconomics: output, employment and aggregate prices. To understand different indicators used to measure the aggregate performance of the economy. To understand the importance of economic growth and the role of the financial system. To understanding the nature of the business cycle and economic policy instruments available to stabilize fluctuations. To analyze the problem of open economies, their trade and financial relations with other countries.
