Course context for academic year 2018-19

Por su descriptor y situación, la asignatura debe considerarse como complementaria o continuación de la materia Introducción a la Sociología  dedicada a “comprender los procesos sociales de la desviacion social y en especial de los siguientes aspectos, los componentes básicos de la desviacion social, conocer las principales perspectivas sociológicas que han abordado el problema del delito, la desviacion de la norma imperante en las sociedades modernas y la importancia que tiene este fenómeno en la configuración de la estructura social: el delito , la desviación nos permite definir los limites y valores por los que se rige una determinada comunidad.
La estructura social, a través del poder político que la representa, es la que define lo que es correcto o incorrecto, normal o desviado y es por esta relación entre estructura social, norma y desviación, por lo que se puede afirmar que cada tipo de sociedad produce una determinada cantidad y una cierta clase de desviación"(Coy,E.,1988)

El papel de la Sociología de la Desviación, es ver la otra cara de la realidad, analizar y descubrir las causas que hacen del delito un elemento clave en la configuración de los diversos modelos sociales en los que se desenvuelve el actor social.

Specific Competences (CE)

  • CE1 : Be able to describe fundamental concepts in the fields of psychology, sociology, law and natural sciences that are needed to provide a global analysis of criminal phenomena and deviation.
  • CE3 : Be able to extract and synthesise information from different sources, including: handling information and communication technologies, designing and applying appropriate research strategies for compiling data using quantitative and qualitative methods, and being able to apply basic statistical techniques to questions related to crime and victimisation when necessary.
  • CE8 : Be able to argue and describe different points of view and debate them in a logical and coherent manner and present conclusions in an appropriate academic format when dealing with questions of criminal policy, victimisation, criminalisation and responses to crime and deviation as well as on the perception and interpretation of the same by the communications media, public opinion and official reports.
