La asignatura trata de acercar al alumnado a los conceptos básicos del Derecho Procesal (Jurisdicción, acción y proceso), así como a las nociones más generales del Proceso Civil, de manera que puedan afrontar con éxito la asignatura Derecho Procesal, impartida en el tercer curso del Grado de Derecho. La relevancia del Derecho Procesal en el marco de las distintas disciplinas jurídicas es indiscutible, pues todo aquel que desee dedicarse a la práctica del Derecho en cualquiera de sus vertientes (abogacía, procuraduría, judicatura, fiscalía, etc.) debe conocer los mecanismos a través de los cuales el Derecho objetivo puede hacerse valer en situaciones de conflicto, esto es, cuando resulta necesario acudir al proceso o a sistemas alternativos de resolución.
