Competencies and objectives

Course context for academic year 2023-24

This subject is made up of three blocks or areas of knowledge: intellectual property, industrial property and information technologies. The legal norms that regulate intellectual property and industrial property grant a special property right over intangible goods (artistic and intellectual creations, trademarks, patents and industrial design). A closer look at these two sets of legislation will provide an insight into a complex economic reality with a specific weight in the Community and world economy. The block on information technologies includes three issues that are still new but have a major impact on the life of the digital consumer: digital platforms, the use of personal data and the development of artificial intelligence.
These three areas of knowledge are characterised by internationalisation and presence in the virtual world. These two characteristics justify the fact that their legislative regulation has a marked international accent, as well as being subject to constant evolution in order to adapt to the changes demanded by the development of the virtual environment. For these reasons, this subject must be taught taking into account both international legislation, particularly EU legislation, without prejudice to the necessary approximation to Spanish legislation, as well as the problems derived from the digital environment.
