Course context for academic year 2023-24

The subject "European Union Law" is a compulsory subject that is taught in the first semester of the third year of the Degree in International Relations. It is in close connection with the compulsory subject "Public International Law", which is taught in the first semester of the second year, with the subject "International Organizations", which is taught in the second semester of the second year, and with the subject "Introduction to International Relations", which is taught in the first semester of the first year, taught by the Area of ¿¿Public International Law and International Relations. It pursues as a training purpose, the knowledge and analysis of the origin and evolution of the European integration process, the objectives, principles and values ¿¿of the European Union, as well as its Institutions, legal system and its relationship with internal legal systems, its jurisdictional system, the protection of fundamental rights and citizenship statute. This subject contributes to the professional profile of the degree and to the development of its specific and generic competences by offering the knowledge of the basis of the entire European system. The knowledge acquired opens the way for research, professional practice, a diplomatic career or the access to different positions of public officials within the European Union. This learning, in addition, acquires a strategic nature if it is directed towards a further specialization, taking advantage of new opportunities in the field of expectations of increasing regional integration of a cross-border nature and the internationalization needs of companies, public entities and all kinds of organizations.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2023-24

It is intended that the student acquire the ability to make critical judgments about the European legal reality through knowledge and analysis of the origin and evolution of the European integration process, the objectives, principles and values ¿¿of the European Union, as well as its Institutions, system legal and its relationship with internal laws, its jurisdictional system, the protection of fundamental rights and the citizenship statute. As well as promoting the acquisition of skills in the management of the specific legal terminology of European Union Law and autonomous learning to undertake further studies with advantage.

This subject contributes to the professional profile of the degree and to the development of its specific and generic competences by offering knowledge of the basis of the European system. The knowledge acquired opens the way for research, professional practice, diplomatic career or access to different positions of public officials within the European Union.
