Course context for academic year 2026-27

The subject Constitution and Sources of Law is one of the core courses of the Law Degree. Its aim is to provide students with the essential conceptual, historical and normative foundations needed to understand the Spanish legal order as a whole: the Constitution as the supreme norm, its historical genesis, the principles that inform it, and the system of sources of law that flows from it.
The study of this subject is grounded in the conviction that law is not a neutral set of rules, but rather the outcome of historical processes, power relations and social conflicts. For this reason, particular attention is paid both to constitutionalism as a historical movement and to the critical analysis of the current legal order, incorporating a gender perspective throughout as an indispensable analytical tool for understanding the structural inequalities that law may either reproduce or combat.
