Course context for academic year 2014-15

La Fisiología es una de las materias más integradoras de todas las que forman parte de las Ciencias de la Vida, dado que sus postulados recogen ideas y conceptos de otras disciplinas más instrumentales como la química, física, matemáticas, bioquímica así como la biología molecular y celular. Esta formación permite al alumno conocer a nivel celular, de órganos y sistemas cómo los animales comparten funciones y mecanismos comunes y, a la vez, se diferencian de otros organismos. La Fisiología Animal además estudia los mecanismos de regulación que permiten la homeostasis y las adaptaciones de los animales que les capacitan para existir en ambientes muy diferentes. En conclusión, la Fisiología Animal en la titulación de Biología debería resaltar los principios y mecanismos de las distintas formas de vida e ilustrar las estrategias funcionales que han ido desarrollado los animales, dentro de los límites de las leyes físicas y químicas, para adaptarse al medio en que se encuentran. Por otro lado, sería de gran interés y utilidad en la formación del futuro biólogo que las competencias alcanzadas con esta asignatura se coordinen y sirvan de apoyo para otras disciplinas importantes en la formación del biólogo como la Ecología, la Etología, la Biología Molecular, entre otras.

* Comprender y describir los procesos fisiológicos a los distintos niveles de organización y cómo estos procesos contribuyen al mantenimiento de la homeostasis.
* Comprender los procesos fisiológicos que permiten la adaptación a un medio ambiente cambiante.
* Conocer la diversidad fisiológica entre animales como resultado de los procesos evolutivos.
* Entender la metodología experimental que se utiliza en los estudios de Fisiología Animal.
