El objeto de la asignatura es dar a conocer los principales rasgos doctrinales del islam en su corpus esencial y sus principales variantes, así como sus implicaciones y desarrollos sociales y civilizacionales hasta hoy, atendiendo también a actitudes y movimientos modernos que se declaran "islámicos", independientemente de que dicho carácter iislámico pueda ser puesto en entredicho

- CE1 : Understand human behaviour in society using specific methods and techniques of analysis and, in this way, develop the ethical commitment to gender equality and a special capacity for interpersonal relationships.
- CE2 : Understand History and the major artistic and philosophical currents of Mankind, particularly the classical foundations on which European cultural reality is based, and be able to transmit them by promoting the social value of culture.
- CE4 : Understand contemporary territorial, socioeconomic, political and cultural reality, national and international, to interpret and transmit one's view of the modern world in critical fashion particularly the process of European integration, as well as the shaping of the Spanish state and its impact on the world.
- CE5 : Assess and interpret the cultural diversity of the Region of Valencia, contrasting the indigenous cultures of the region with other cultures with which relations and contacts are established, using the official languages as the vehicles for interaction.
