Course context for academic year 2012-13
Esta asignatura ofrece al alumno una formación obligatoria y básica en las principales técnicas de representación gráfica y cartografía, necesarias para el estudio del territorio y su planificación.
Por medio de la misma aprenderá a utilizar con propiedad los conceptos, categorías, teorías y temas más relevantes de Cartografía como ciencia, como técnica y fuente basica para la investigación geográfica e histórica así como apreciar la importancia que tiene como instrumento para el análisis y la gestión territorial.
El alumno adquirirá capacidades y conocimientos básicos para la lectura, interpretación y manejo adecuado de los recursos cartográficos y otras técnicas de representación.
Para todo ello se recurrirá tanto a medios analógicos tradicionales, y documentación cartográfica, como a aplicaciones informáticas (SIG).

- CE5 : Capacity to read and interpret spatial information provided by statistical tables, graphs, maps, plans and satellite images correctly.
- CE6 : Capacity to transform and synthesise spatial information provided by statistical tables, graphs, maps and plans.
- CE7 : Capacity to determine and interpret the elements of the area in question according the scale of analysis.

- CE4 : Master the use of the most significant concepts, categories, theories and themes of the different branches of historical research (economic, social, political, cultural, gender, etc.), as well as appreciating the importance that the different economic, political, social and cultural contexts have for research.

- CE6 : Acquire the ability to make critical use of documentary historical sources and information gathering tools (document catalogues and bibliographies, archive inventories, electronic databases, etc.).

- Conocimiento sobre la historia y las bases conceptuales de la ciencia cartográfica.
- Capacidad para utilizar términos técnicos y usuales en cartografía.
- Capacidad para atender a los requerimientos teóricos y técnicos de un mapa.
- Destreza en el análisis, interpretación y aprovechamiento científico de un mapa.
- Conocimiento del proceso de ejecución de un mapa generalista o de un mapa temático.
- Capacidad de ponderar el proceso de transposición del territorio al mapa en un proyecto temático territorial.
- Capacidad para el empleo de herramientas y aplicaciones informáticas básicas utilizadas en la ciencia y técnica cartográfica.
- Posibilidad de atender las prescripciones técnicas en la ejecución de un mapa temático.
- Manejo de las herramientas de diseño cartográfico y empleo de los sistemas de representación para trabajar a escala y magnitudes verdaderas.
