Course context for academic year 2018-19

El uso de las técnicas de análisis económico en la sociedad ha experimentado un auge durante los últimos años debido no solo al creciente interés en el conocimiento de las interacciones de la economía con otras actividades, sino también a la disponibilidad creciente de información estadística y bases de datos importantes. Paralelamente, las técnicas de análisis han evolucionado y se han desarrollado un buen número de herramientas econométricas especializadas en el estudio de distintos aspectos económicos que es necesario conocer y aplicar en los procesos de investigación y toma de decisiones. La disponibilidad de información recopilada en paneles de datos o en formatos temporales, requiere del conocimiento de las técnicas y su aplicación con el fin de permitir una correcta definición de los modelos de investigación, y una coherente resolución de los problemas que se planteen como hipótesis. Dado que tanto los problemas que puede afrontar un doctorando pueden ser múltiples, a la par que las técnicas para su correcto enfoque, en esta asignatura se ofrece una aproximación a algunos más comunes, introduciendo casos de estudio que utilizan el análisis envolvente de datos.
La asignatura introduce y desarrolla el conocimiento en la aplicación de métodos científicos para el análisis económico centrándose en Análisis Envolvente de Datos. Esta metodología es especialmente adecuada para el análisis de la eficiencia y la eficacia económicas, dado que permite la utilización de gran cantidad de información particularizada para una unidad productiva o área que posibilita el análisis de la mejora de eficiencia y permite la identificación de líneas de actuación que la mejoren.
Esta asignatura se contextualiza dentro de la línea de formación básica para un investigador en economía aplicada. La estructura de formación teórica y aplicada, crea la habilidad en el uso de las técnicas de análisis que el resto de las asignaturas específicas necesitan.

Specific Competences (CE)

  • CE1 : Capacity to find, revise, select and use academic bibliography and specialised databases dealing with a particular topic.
  • CE10 : Be able to use complex analysis methods for the analysis, diagnosis and solution of economic questions and problems that cannot be analysed using simpler techniques.
  • CE12 : Ability to present the results of the analysis and exercises carried out using computer techniques, as part of the process of discussing the work carried out.
  • CE3 : Use rationality for specialised economic analysis and describing complex aspects of economic reality, paying attention to historical inertia.
  • CE4 : Evaluate the consequences of different courses of action and select the best on the basis of the objectives.
  • CE5 : Prepare academic works that satisfy the demands of highly-respected international scientific journals.
  • CE7 : Identify sources of economic information that is difficult for less specialised researchers to understand and know how to analyse its content.
  • CE8 : Capacity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to solving theoretical and applied economic problems.
  • CE9 : Analytical skills to develop theoretical frameworks that simplify the study of the more complex aspects of the real economy, and the capacity to set the appropriate levels of abstraction for studying the most complex economic questions.
