Competencies and objectives

 

Course context for academic year 2017-18

Presentation and analysis of the influence, presence and relationship between Shakespeare and Spanish playwrights from the Siglo de Oro to nowadays. Similarities in issues, topics and interests in the plays of the period will be analyzed in order to evaluate the effect of Shakespeare on these playwrights as a reference and inspiring model for their literary creativity. The context where this relationship is established will also be taken into account.

General Competences (CG)

  • CG1 : Acquire the methodology and resources needed for literary research.
  • CG2 : Acquire specific advanced knowledge (regarding those acquired in the degree course) of the subjects studied.
  • CG3 : Acquire specific knowledge of the subjects studied for its professional application in the field of teaching.

 

Specific Competences:>>Conceptual knowledge / theoretical frameworks

  • CE2 : Understand the new content proposed for literature courses.
  • CE3 : Understand the methodological procedures used to analyse literary texts.
  • CE4 : Reflect on recurring themes and motifs in literature.
  • CE6 : Acquire the philological resources needed to carry out literary research work (critical editing, bibliographic searches, databases, quotation systems, etc.).

  • CE12 : Carry out self-guided bibliographic searches using both electronic and traditional resources.
  • CE9 : Apply the knowledge acquired to carrying out self-guided research work into literature.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2017-18

To determine basic concepts of English literature specifically related to the presence, influence and relationship between Shakespeare’s work and Spanish classical playwrights.

To identify periodicity in the relationship between Shakespeare and Spanish classical playwrights in order to locate specific authors and plays in which common issues are present, and to define their main features.

To be able to develop search for information in order to catalogue it, and to work on the synthesis of data concerning authors and plays in which the relationship between Shakespeare and Spanish classical playwrights is present.

To analyze and compare critically specific plays or fragments of Shakespeare’s and Spanish classical playwrights’ works, and to determine their formal features and their relationship with the establishment of a range of acknowledgeable hypothetical meanings.
