Course context for academic year 2015-16

Formación sobre el papel de la cultura y literatura en lengua inglesa como exponente y recurso de transmisión cultural, en la enseñanza del inglés como segunda lengua/lengua extranjera y el desarrollo de la investigación en esta materia. Incluye formación sobre la integración de la cultura y la literatura en lengua inglesa en el desarrollo de la compentencia linguística del inglés y aspectos relativos a géneros, la selección de textos y su utilización en el diseño de actividades y la planificación de los contenidos. Incluye así mismo formación sobre líneas de investigación y sobre métodos de investigación específicos para estas materias.

General Competences (CG)

  • CG2 : Understand the specific problems related to the linguistic peculiarities presented by Spanish and/or English as regards teaching as a second foreign language at different levels and abilities, as well as the pertinent literary and cultural aspects needed to integrate literature and culture into the L2/LE Spanish/English classroom.
  • CG4 : Ability to apply the knowledge acquired of Spanish and/or English as second foreign languages to teaching.
  • CG6 : Ability to transmit social and cultural values in line with modern, multilingual and multicultural Europe in one's professional activities (research and/or teaching).

 

General Competences acquired at University of Alicante (CGUA)

  • CGUA1 : Comprender y expresarse en un idioma distinto a los oficiales de la Comunidad Valenciana en su ámbito disciplinar.
  • CGUA2 : Ser capaz de utilizar como usuario herramientas básicas en TIC.

 

Specific Competences (CE):>>Conceptual

  • CEE5 : Understand the role of Spanish and/or English literature and culture as instruments for developing the capacity to communicate in the language, as well as the lines of and possibilities for research in this context.
  • CEE6 : Understand and master the specialised bibliography, terminology and conceptual tools that can act as the basis for planning teaching and for research, both with respect to the aspects common to teaching second foreign languages and to that affecting its application to Spanish and/or English.

 

Specific Competences (CE):>>Procedural

  • CPE11 : Ability to use appropriate Spanish/English literary texts to develop linguistic competence and bring the sociocultural context of the respective languages into closer focus.
  • CPE12 : Ability to read and use specialised bibliography, terminology and conceptual tools that can act as the basis for teaching and research, both with regard to the common aspects of teaching second foreign languages and to their application to Spanish and/or English.

 

 

 

Learning outcomes (Training objectives)

  1. Knowledge of instrumental concepts in the subject’s domain.
  2. Knowledge of basic approaches, as well as specific aspects and problems related to the integration of English literature and culture in the teaching of English as a second or foreign language.
  3. Knowledge of key perspectives for research on the subject.
  4. Knowledge of materials, strategies and appraisal tools in order to integrate literature and culture in the teaching of Spanish as a second or foreign language.
  5. Knowledge of information sources and specialized reference bibliography on the subject.
  6. Application of the knowledge acquired in case study activities, problem solving, materials’ analysis, techniques and strategies and to the design of activities.
  7. Analytical and comprehensive use of different information sources and reference bibliography.
  8. Adequate use of terms and conceptual tools specific to the subject.
  9. Application of the acquired knowledge for the accomplishment of academic works.
  10. Responsibility in individual tasks.
  11. Collaboration in collective tasks.
  12. Development of a flexible and critical attitude towards the diversity of methods, theories and perspectives.
  13. Development of the ability for autonomous work.

 

 

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2015-16

1. Que el alumno conozca y sea capaz de seleccionar textos literarios ingleses en la clase de inglés L2/LE como instrumento para el desarrollo de la competencia linguística y la aproximación al contexto sociocultural de los países de habla inglesa. 2. Que el alumno sea capaz de aplicar lo aprendido al diseño de actividades docentes relacionadas con la incorporación de la literatura y la cultura inglesas en la clase de inglés L2/LE. 3.Que el alumno sea capaz de seleccionar, de forma fundamentada, materiales para la integración de la literatura y cultura en la clase de inglés L2/LE. 4. Que el alumno conozca y utilice de manera analítica y comprensiva bibliografía de referencia. 5. Que el alumno conozca y utilice bases de datos y otras herramientas adecuadas para trabajar la materia. 6. Que el alumno sea capaz de sintetizar y analizar contenidos relacionados con la materia y de exponer sus ideas con orden, claridad y coherencia. 7. Que el alumno sea capaz de elaborar un trabajo relacionado con la integración de la literatura y cultura en la clase de ingles L2/LE. 8. Que el alumno adopte una actitud responsable en las tareas individuales y colectivas. 9. Que el alummno asuma y manifieste en sus tareas valores sociales y culturales acordes con la Europa actual.
