Course context for academic year 2015-16

Esta asignatura aborda el léxico en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje del inglés como segunda lengua/lengua extranjera, observando contrastes lingüísticos y peculiaridades, criterios de selección y planificación de contenidos, métodos, técnicas, y herramientas de consulta, todo ello encaminado a la programación y puesta en práctica de la enseñanza del léxico en la clase de inglés como segunda lengua/lengua extranjera. Al mismo tiempo, pretende iniciar al alumno en la investigación en el léxico de las lenguas extranjeras y las segundas lenguas.

General Competences (CG)

  • CG1 : Master, theories, linguistic models and methodologies applicable to teaching second languages, as well as research methods and information search techniques that can be used as the basis for carrying out research work on the teaching of Spanish and/or English as second foreign languages.
  • CG2 : Understand the specific problems related to the linguistic peculiarities presented by Spanish and/or English as regards teaching as a second foreign language at different levels and abilities, as well as the pertinent literary and cultural aspects needed to integrate literature and culture into the L2/LE Spanish/English classroom.
  • CG3 : Ability to apply the knowledge acquired to planning and carrying out research work into teaching Spanish and/or English as second languages that clearly transmit one's knowledge and the results of said research.
  • CG4 : Ability to apply the knowledge acquired of Spanish and/or English as second foreign languages to teaching.
  • CG5 : Adopt a critical and self-critical attitude, involving self-assessment and self-correction, as well as possessing intellectual curiosity to allow self-learning and the continuous updating of one's knowledge in the field of teaching second foreign languages.
  • CG6 : Ability to transmit social and cultural values in line with modern, multilingual and multicultural Europe in one's professional activities (research and/or teaching).

Specific Competences (CE):>>Conceptual

  • CEE4 : Understand linguistic aspects of Spanish and/or English, at different levels and abilities, that are pertinent from the point of view of research and teaching, as well as specific lines of research in these areas.
  • CEE6 : Understand and master the specialised bibliography, terminology and conceptual tools that can act as the basis for planning teaching and for research, both with respect to the aspects common to teaching second foreign languages and to that affecting its application to Spanish and/or English.

 

Specific Competences (CE):>>Procedural

  • CPE10 : Ability to select and plan soundly-based content, activities, materials and assessment techniques for the teaching/learning of Spanish and/or English at L2/LE on the levels making up the language and related to the different ability levels, bearing in mind the specific problems raised and the diversity of teaching contexts.
  • CPE12 : Ability to read and use specialised bibliography, terminology and conceptual tools that can act as the basis for teaching and research, both with regard to the common aspects of teaching second foreign languages and to their application to Spanish and/or English.
  • CPE8 : Apply models and theories related to teaching and acquiring second foreign languages, as well as the knowledge acquired concerning levels, abilities and the role of literature and culture in developing competence, carrying out activities (case studies, problem-solving, etc.) and academic work raised in the different fields.

 

Specific Competences (CE):>>Attitude

  • CAE14 : Maintain a flexible and critical attitude to the many theories, trends and methodologies used in research into teaching second languages (Spanish and/or English).
  • CAE15 : Ability to update and develop for oneself the knowledge related to teaching Spanish and/or English as L2/LE.
  • CAE16 : Show the capacity for collaboration, commitment and responsibility on the individual and joint tasks needed to prepare oneself to teach and research into English/Spanish.
  • CAE17 : Show a positive attitude to multilingualism and multiculturalism in modern Europe on the basis of teaching English/Spanish.

 

 

 

Learning outcomes (Training objectives)

  1. Knowledge of instrumental concepts in the domains that constitute the subject.
  2. Knowledge of specific aspects and problems of the linguistic levels of English, as well as its linguistic bases, in purview of teaching it as a second or foreign language.
  3. Knowledge of key perspectives on the subject’s research.
  4. Knowledge of materials, strategies, appraisal tools, as well as their linguistic foundations, with the aims of teaching phonetics, grammar and vocabulary of English as a second or foreign language.
  5. Knowledge of information sources and specialized bibliography of reference in linguistics applied to the teaching of phonetics, grammar and the lexicon of English as a second or foreign language.
  6. Application of the knowledge acquired in case study activities, problem solving, analysis of materials, techniques and strategies and to the design of activities.
  7. Analytical and comprehensive use of the different sources of information and the reference bibliography.
  8. Adequate use of terms and conceptual tools specific to the subject.
  9. Application of the knowledge acquired to the accomplishment of academic works.
  10. Responsibility in individual tasks.
  11. Collaboration in collective tasks.
  12. Development of a flexible and critical attitude towards the diversity of methods, theories, perspectives.
  13. Development of the ability for autonomous work.

 

 

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2015-16

4.1. Objetivos formativos 1. Comprender la relación del léxico con otros niveles de la estructura de la lengua en el proceso de aprendizaje-enseñanza. 2. Conocer las variedades léxicas del inglés y los factores sociales, culturales y situacionales relacionados con ellas. 3. Conocer las diversas teorías que explican el proceso de aprendizaje del vocabulario y las que desarrollan su enseñanza. 4. Conocer los distintos planteamientos metodológicos sobre la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del léxico del inglés como L2/LE. 5. Conocer y valoren materiales, recursos, tipos de actividades para la enseñanza del léxico del inglés L2/LE. 6. Conocer los instrumentos de evaluación del aprendizaje del léxico del inglés como L2/LE dependiendo del nivel del alumno. 7. Conocer bibliografía especializada sobre la enseñanza del léxico del inglés como L2/LE. 8. Conocer las principales líneas de investigación en el ámbito del léxico aplicado al inglés como segunda lengua/ lengua extranjera. 4.2. Objetivos procedimentales 9. Utilizar la terminología inherente a los conceptos relacionados con el componente léxico del inglés. 10. Ser capaces de fundamentar las decisiones docentes aplicando las distintas teorías sobre la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del léxico del inglés como L2/LE. 11. Ser capaces de seleccionar, de forma razonada, métodos y técnicas para desarrollar la enseñanza del léxico del inglés como lengua extranjera. 12. Ser capaces de seleccionar los contenidos para la clase de enseñanza de vocabulario del inglés L2/LE en función de las necesidades del aprendiz. 13. Que sean capaces de seleccionar y utilizar los instrumentos de evaluación adecuados al nivel del alumno. 14. Que sean capaces de utilizar determinados recursos, como los diccionarios, para potenciar el autoaprendizaje del estudiante. 15. Ser capaces de diseñar actividades y materiales para la enseñanza del vocabulario del inglés L2/LE. 16. Utilizar de manera analítica y comprensiva bibliografía de referencia. 17. Ser capaces de sintetizar y analizar contenidos relacionados con la materia y de exponer sus ideas con orden, claridad y coherencia. 18. Ser capaces de diseñar y elaborar un trabajo sobre alguno de los aspectos del léxico del inglés desde la perspectiva de su enseñanza como L2/LE. 4.3. Objetivos actitudinales 19. Desarrollar una actitud crítica pero flexible respecto a la enseñanza de lenguas, por lo que se refiere a los métodos y enfoques de la enseñanza del léxico del inglés L2/LE. 20. Desarrollar una capacidad autocrítica que les permita formarse de manera autónoma y constante. 21. Ser capaces de actualizar y desarrollar, de manera autónoma, los conocimientos relacionados con la enseñanza del léxico del inglés L2/LE. 22. Desarrollar su capacidad par para la colaboración, el compromiso y la responsabilidad en las tareas conjuntas. 23. Asumir una actitud responsable en las tareas individuales y colaborativas. 24. Desarrollar su capacidad para llevar a cabo su trabajo de manera autónoma 25. Asumir y manifiesten en sus tareas valores sociales y culturales acordes con la Europa actual.
