Course context for academic year 2019-20
La asignatura se encuadra en el 4º semestre de la titulación de Ingeniería Civil y es la segunda que se imparte en el área de conocimiento de Ingeniería del Terreno. Se pretende dotar al alumnado de conocimientos básicos en Mecánica de Suelo y Mecánica de las Rocas para poder afrontar con éxito las asiganturas del área de semestres posteriores, a saber: Geotecnia Y Cimientos, Construcciones Geotécnicas y Geotecnia de Obras Hidráulicas, que son aplicaciones de Geotecnia y emplean necesariamente los conceptos aquí adquiridos.

Specific Competences (Civil Branch)
- CE-5 : Understand geotechnics and soil and rock mechanics and their application to carrying out studies, projects, constructions and exploitations where it is necessary to carry out earth movements, foundations and containment structures.

- CB-3 : Students should have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data (normally within their field of study) to give opinions that include a reflection on important, social, scientific, ethical matters, etc.
