This is a subject that includes many of the transversal competences of the basic module of the degree, and therefore has a marked interdisciplinary focus, complementing skills acquisition of the subjects of the module. The operational framework of the subject is broad and general, so the theoretical foundations highlight the most important aspects of the major milestones of scientific discovery and paradigms in biology, focusing more on the procedures for the acquisition of knowledge and skills in own content. Its main goal is to begin to familiarize students with the guidelines of scientific research and communication in biology. To do this, it aims to initiate students to the basics of scientific method and understanding of the fundamentals of experimental design, stimulating the acquisition of skills in using the methodologies and basic tools for obtaining information and scientific communication across different stages of a research paper.
