La Biología es una asignatura formativa básica en el Grado de Biología, ya que su objetivo fundamental es ofrecer una visión general de los principales procesos biológicos, así como de la diversidad misma de la vida, en el contexto de la ciencia y la sociedad actuales. Por tanto, resulta fundamental un enfoque interdisciplinario, necesario para comprender la complejidad de los sistemas biológicos, los procesos evolutivos, la clasificación de los organismos y la influencia del ser humano en el entorno.
El objetivo de este curso es proporcionar al alumnado las herramientas teóricas necesarias para el estudio de la vida en la Tierra, desde los acontecimientos históricos más relevantes, con una perspectiva biológica y ecológica, hasta la implementación de modernas técnicas que permiten importantes avances.

Constituye la Biología una ciencia de especial relevancia, ya que se ha pasado de una visión cercana e individualizada de los organismos, a una visión cosmogónica, no solo a escala global del planeta, donde se analizan problemas ambientales de origen antrópico, sino considerando nuevas metas a través de la exobiología. La materia repasa el proceso evolutivo del planeta, desde sus orígenes, hasta la aparición y el desarrollo de la vida, los cambios en las condiciones ambientales a lo largo del tiempo, resume la clasificación de los seres vivos y estudia su interdependencia con el medio en que se desarrollan.

La ubicación de esta asignatura, en el primer semestre del primer curso, permitirá al alumnado adquirir una visión global sobre las distintas disciplinas biológicas que se desarrollarán a lo largo del programa formativo del grado en Biología, así como para el desarrollo de la actividad profesional futura, de acuerdo con las competencias atribuidas por los Estatutos del Colegio Oficial de Biólogos.

  • CE10 : Understand the fundamentals of the regulation of vital functions of organisms through internal and external factors and identify mechanisms for adapting to the environment.
  • CE18 : Analyse the structure and functions of animal and plant viruses, cells, tissues, organs and systems.
  • CE2 : Relate the physical and chemical principles of Biology.
  • CE23 : Analyse the components of the physical environment: hydric, atmospheric and terrestrial and their relationship with the biotic environment.
  • CE25 : Relate the different interactions between species in the working of ecosystems.
  • CE27 : Relate the flows of energy and the biogeochemical cycles in the working of ecosystems.
  • CE4 : Recognise different levels of organisation in living systems.
  • CE5 : Understand the concept of life and know its origin and history, together with that of the Earth.
  • CE7 : Understand evolutionary mechanisms and models.

 

Specific Competences:>>Ability

  • CE31 : Recognise and implement good scientific practices for measurement and experimentation.
  • CE32 : Safe handling: biological material, reagents, instruments and devices used in Biology.
  • CE33 : Carry out standard laboratory procedures involved in analytical tasks.
  • CE37 : Ability to find, analyse, understand and write scientific and technical texts.
  • CE40 : Relate Biology to other disciplines.
