Course context for academic year 2017-18

La Geología Estructural es la rama de las Ciencias Geológicas que se ocupa del reconocimiento, de la representación y de la interpretación genética e histórico-evolutiva de las estructuras de las rocas en tanto en cuanto son producidas por procesos de deformación en la corteza terrestre, es decir, por fenómenos diastróficos. Así pues quedan fuera de su objetivo las estructuras primarias de las rocas (especialmente de las sedimentarias e ígneas) y otras de pequeña magnitud relacionadas con procesos superficiales (deslizamiento de laderas, arrastre por glaciares, hidratación, disolución). Por el contrario se incluyen las estructuras debidas a procesos gravitatorios de ámbito mayor (diapiros, mantos gravitatorios y otras estructuras de colapso).
La Geología Estructural es una materia de carácter básico, fundamental en la formación de un graduado en Geología. Los conocimientos adquiridos en esta asignatura podrán aplicarse en numerosos ámbitos de la actividad profesional (cartografía geológica, geología del subsuelo, recursos naturales, investigación, geología aplicada a la ingeniería, entre otros.
La asignatura está coordinada con el resto de las asignaturas del Grado de Geología, especialmente con Geología II (1er curso), Técnicas Cartográficas y Cartografía Geológica I (2º curso), Cartografía Geológica II y III (3er curso) y Tectónica (4º curso). Una mención especial merece la asignatura de Geología Estructural II, que junto a esta asignatura de Geología Estructural I, proporcionan el cuerpo básico de doctrina de esta disciplina.

  • CE22 : Know how to carry out basic and applied research in the different branches of Geology.
  • CE25 : Gather, represent and analyse data using appropriate, field, laboratory and office techniques.
  • CE26 : Integrate field and laboratory data with theory, following a sequence of observation, synthesis and modelling.
  • CE27 : Evaluate the problems involved in selecting samples, accuracy, precision and uncertainty when gathering, recording and analysing field and laboratory data.
  • CE28 : Know how to interpret and prepare geological maps of different kinds (geological, geomorphological, geoenvironmental, geotechnical, metallogenetic, hydrogeological, etc.), and other methods of representation (stratigraphic columns, geological cross-sections, etc.).
  • CE31 : Be aware of the bibliographic resources for Geology.

 

Generic UA Competences

  • CGUA2 : Understand sources of information for Geology and know how to manage them.
  • CGUA3 : Express oneself correctly, both orally and in writing, in either of the two official languages of the Region of Valencia.
