OBJECTIVES

1. To provide students with an advanced specialist and multidisciplinary training, aimed at professional specialisation or research in the field of language assessment and literary culture in the Catalan language.

2. To equip students with general and specific skills which will enable them to apply their training to professional contexts related to their area of study.

3. To introduce students to the tools and knowledge necessary to develop their critical faculties and capacity for analysis and synthesis, in order to integrate knowledge and be able to reflect and decide on topics related to language assessment and literary culture, but also on topics of a social, scientific and ethical nature.

4. To equip students with the ability to transmit information, ideas and the conclusions of their observations or research clearly and unambiguously.

5. To introduce students to the tools and knowledge, and their applications, that will enable them to develop the skills necessary for independent learning and for professional practice or research in the field of language assessment and literary culture.

• 3:Know how to communicate conclusions concerning linguistic and literary culture consultancy, and the knowledge and reasons upholding them, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously.
• 4:Possess the learning skills that allow one to continue progressing in the study of linguistic and literary culture consultancy in a way that is mainly self-guided and autonomous.
• 5:Acquire an ethical commitment, focusing on such aspects as the equality of all, as well as knowledge and appreciation of linguistic diversity and multiculturalism, from the sociolinguistic and cultural context of the Valencian language.

• nº 1:Acquire advanced knowledge of linguistic learning.
• nº 2:Be able to apply linguistics and information and communication technologies to linguistic consultancy.
• nº 3:Apply one's knowledge of linguistics and cultural anthropology, as well as methods for managing cultural diversity, to solve possible intercultural conflicts and contribute towards increasing the creativity, innovation, efficiency and sustainability of society as a whole.
• nº 4:Understand the legal, cultural and sociolinguistic context and its effect on the teaching/learning process of Valencian in the common context of the Catalan language.
• nº 5:Understand the different types of editorial formats and know how to design and publish texts using different communications channels, paying special attention to linguistic and extralinguistic factors.
• nº 6:Understand the mechanisms and process of creation and dissemination of literary culture in educational contexts.
• nº 7:Translate documents from different fields using the appropriate technological resources.
• nº 8:Know how to evaluate, select and develop resources and materials for teaching Catalan language and literature, in accordance with the instructions of the Valencian education system, paying special attention to cultural and linguistic diversity and new forms of communication.
• nº 9:Know how to manage documentary, personnel, infrastructure and logistical resource operations in communication and linguistic services companies and educational institutions in different sociopolitical, administrative and legal contexts.

• nº 10:Be able to comment on, produce and correct different kinds of oral and written texts, as well as apply this ability in a cultural and educational context.
• nº 11:Know how to design activities to encourage the creation and dissemination of literary culture.

Route B

• nº 12:Diseñar y desarrollar programas de dinamización cultural y lingüística en el ámbito público y privado a partir del conocimiento del contexto legal, cultural y sociolingüístico valenciano.

Research orientation

• nº 13:Know how to develop work techniques used in the research field, set research targets related to specific goals, resources and purposes, adapting the content and conclusions of research to different formats.
• nº 14:Know how to carry out original research adapted to academic demands, with correct treatment of bibliographic and documentary resources, using the discursive method used in the scientific-academic field.

Professional orientation

• nº 15:Identify the situations and needs demanding the intervention of professionals with the appropriate resources, and applying quality criteria.
• nº 16:Acquire appropriate professional skills in the field of linguistic consultancy and literary culture, promoting cooperation with other professionals and teamwork.

 Entry Requirements

According to the Regulations of the University of Alicante, the following requirements must be complied to have access to official taught Master’s degrees:

1. To be in possession of a SPANISH OFFICIAL GRADUATE DEGREE CERTIFICATE or other issued by an institution of higher education  within the EHEA (European Higher Education) that enables the holder to have access  to Master’s degrees in the issuing .
2. To be in possession of an officially approved  FOREIGN HIGHER EDUCATION DEGREE CERTIFICATE that had been recognised as equal to the degree that allows access to the requested studies.
3. To be in possession of a UNIVERSITY DEGREE CERTIFICATE obtained in a University or Higher Education Institution of COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE EHEA, without the prior approval of their studies. In this case, the following should be considered:

• Non- recognised degree certificates shall require a technical report showing an equivalence statement issued by the University of Alicante (ContinUA – Continuing Education Centre), for which the corresponding fee should be paid.
• Access through this way does under no circumstances imply prior official approval of the holder’s degree certificate, nor its recognition for purposes other than studying a master's degree.

ADMISSION AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

1.-Admission profile

The applicant profile considered suitable for admission to this Master’s Degree is as follows:

• University degree holders who have successfully completed a higher education course in areas related to the Master’s Degree, or who have a professional profile related to the course programme (Language and Literature, Translation and Interpreting, Humanities, Audiovisual Communication, Journalism, Teaching or Librarianship and Archives).
• Professional practice in the areas of specialisation covered in the Master’s Degree (secondary education, language and cultural assessment, language promotion, editing, translation, librarianship, etc.)

Applicants who wish to study this Master’s Degree will be required to provide evidence of level CI (or above)  command of Catalan, both written and oral

Specific admission requirements:

Applicants who do not hold a degree in Catalan Language and Literature will be required to provide proof of a command of Catalan equivalent to level C1 or above (Diploma in Teaching in the Valencian language or Certificate of Proficiency in the Valencian language, issued by the Valencian Government, Intermediate Level Catalan, issued by the University of Valencia, Intermediate Level, issued by the Valencian Language Qualifications Board, or equivalent qualifications from other governmental or officially recognised academic organisations)

2.     Assessment criteria

The Master’s Academic Committee  will be responsible for implementing the student admission procedure and for resolving any issues arising from the selection process.

Given that this Master’s Degree primarily aimed at two different groups, two admission routes are offered:

• via a university qualification
• via professional practice

Pre-enrolment applications should be accompanied by accreditation of professional practice, detailing length of service, or previous university qualification, together with a full academic record.

Following the pre-enrolment period, if demand exceeds the number of places available, applications will be subject to ranking in order of preference.

Students who intend to study for an officially recognised Master’s Degree at the UA should complete pre-enrolment in accordance with the guidelines and deadlines specified annually.

Following publication of the final list of those admitted to the course, an email containing a user password will be sent to successful applicants, enabling them to enrol via the Campus Virtual in accordance with the guidelines and deadlines specified annually.

Advanced specialist training aimed at professional specialisation and/or introduction to research in the field of Catalan Language and Literature. 

Degree course specialisation profile

This Master’s Degree is aimed at training professionals (language technicians, translators, assessors, editors and proofreaders, literary critics, etc.) in the field of the language and culture industries and in particular, in the field of publishing, permitting the dissemination of foreign literary works and the publication of materials aimed at language teaching in the target language.

1. Timescale for implementation of the new Master’s Degree Course

The complete Master’s Degree course programme will be implemented in one phase.   This does not imply that those students who wish to conclude their studies on the present Master’s course will be unable to do so: the necessary measures will be taken to guarantee teaching of the current Master’s Degree subjects.

 2. Equivalence Recognition Procedures, where appropriate, between the current and the new course programme.

To facilitate the transition from the present Master’s Degree course to the new course programme, information sessions have been held the 2009-2010 enrolment period, to assist students with guidance as regards enrolment and enable them to transfer with ease  to  the new course programme.

Credits which have been successfully completed on the present course programme will be given equivalence on the new Master’s Degree course according to the credit equivalence table shown below:

Where students have successfully completed less than 30 credits in each of the sections (Core Block, Specialisation Route), equivalence will be awarded according to the credit equivalence table shown below: 

The Academic Committee will resolve all individual cases presenting anomalies not envisaged by the present credit equivalence procedure.

3.  Studies that will be discontinued and replaced by the proposed Degree course:
