The objectives of the Master’s Degree course are threefold:
According to the Regulations of the University of Alicante, the following requirements must be complied to have access to official taught Master’s degrees:
- Non- recognised degree certificates shall require a technical report showing an equivalence statement issued by the University of Alicante (ContinUA – Continuing Education Centre), for which the corresponding fee should be paid.
- Access through this way does under no circumstances imply prior official approval of the holder’s degree certificate, nor its recognition for purposes other than studying a master's degree.

The Academic Committee will assess each application and will select candidates according to the following criteria:
1) Criteria relevant to academic achievement: 0/5 points.
A) Overall academic record grade. up to 1 point
a) With Distinction: 1.
b) Outstanding: 0.75.
c) Very Good: 0.5.
d) Pass: 0.25.
B) Specific academic record grades (subjects related to the contents of the Master’s Degree course): up to 1 point.
a) Distinction: 1
b) Outstanding: 0.75
c) Very Good: 0.5
d) Pass: 0.25
C) Other academic or professional courses taken, relevant to the contents of the Master’s Degree course: up to 1 point.
D) Grants awarded to study at a European or foreign university: up to 1 point.
E) Accredited periods of study at a European Union or foreign university: up to 1 point.
2) Criteria relevant to command of languages: up to 2.5 points.
A) To be a native English speaker, or hold officially recognised certification accrediting level B2 in English (TOEFL, Cambridge or the Official School of Languages), or to have successfully completed 18 credits in English language as part of a university qualification: up to 1 point.
B) To be a native Spanish speaker, or hold officially recognised certification accrediting level B2 in Spanish (Advanced DELE of the Cervantes Institute or DELU), or to have successfully completed 18 credits in Spanish language as part of a university qualification: up to 1 point.
C) Accredited knowledge of other languages: 0/0.5 points.
3) Criteria relevant to professional experience: up to 1.5 points.
A) Years of professional practice: up to 0.5 points and professional level acquired: up to 0.5 points.
B) Professional level achieved: up to 0.5 points.
C) Suitability for activities undertaken in relation to the Master’s Degree profile: up to 0.5 points.
4) Personal interview: applicants will have the opportunity to present themselves to the Academic Committee and discuss their reasons for wishing to enrol on this Master’s Degree course, their motivations and their future expectations: up to 0.1 point.
Applicants who wish to study this Master’s Degree are required to have level B2 in their second language. This level is considered a prerequisite for admission to the course, and is essential if students are to be able to successfully complete the subjects and taught on the course programme.
Applicants who are unable to provide official accreditation of their command of their second language will be assessed by means of an objective test. The test assessment criteria and methodology will be based on those referring to a B2 level of communicative competence, in accordance with the Common European Framework of References for Languages, directive (CEFR)9, which states that a competent speaker at this level should demonstrate:
The board responsible for the Master’s Degree will set an objective levels test for applicants who are unable to provide official accreditation of their knowledge in English and/or Spanish. This test will focus on communication, and will include the skills identified in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Students who intend to study for an officially recognised Master’s Degree at the UA should complete pre-enrolment in accordance with the guidelines and deadlines specified annually.

Following publication of the final list of those admitted to the course, an email containing a user password will be sent to successful applicants, enabling them to enrol via the Campus Virtual in accordance with the guidelines and deadlines specified annually.

Research and academic.
Areas of research:
Due to the two directions, academic and research, offered by this Master’s Degree, the general profile for English and Spanish for Specific Purposes consists of two specialisation profiles:
a) Profile 1 (P1): A high degree of academic specialisation in English and Spanish for specific purposes.
b) Profile 2 (P2): Introduction to interdisciplinary research in the field of languages for specific purposes (English and Spanish for specific purposes).

2. Equivalence Recognition Procedures, where appropriate, between the current and the new course programme
Credit equivalence will be awarded for 60 of the 90 ECTS credits comprising the previous course programme for the officially recognised Master’s Degree in English and Spanish for Specific Purposes, which will be discontinuted when the new course programme for the university Master’s Degree in English and Spanish for Specific Purposes is implemented. Nevertheless, in order to obtain a Master’s Degree in English and Spanish for Specific Purposes from the University of Alicante, students will be required to have successfully completed either the optional subject Research Report (6 ECTS credits) from the previous course programme or the Master’s Final Project (12 ECTS credits) from the new course programme.
3. Studies that will be discontinued and replaced by the proposed Degree course:
Officially recognised Master’s Degree in English and Spanish for Specific and Business Purposes (90 ECTS credits), implemented at the University of Alicante in the academic year 2006-2007, under Royal Decree 56/2005.
